Island Museum

The Island Museum houses a collection of objects found by the artist on the island of Andøy in August 1992. The collection is exhibited in an old garage building at the Polar Museum on Andenes.

The Island Museum is no ordinary museum for careful documentation of cultural periods and geographic areas. Instead of a scientific categorisation, the choice of objects in the collection is based on the aesthetic criteria of beauty and surprise. The idea of beauty has also formed the guideline for the installation of the objects in the museum.

Raffael Rheinsberg's art has been described as the "archaeology of everyday life". By showing us the objects we use in our work and leisure, he lifts up a mirror that tells about the way we live.
